The Story

Tillandsia streptocarpa is a species native to Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, and northern Argentina, where it grows in dry forests and rocky outcrops at mid to high elevations. It forms a loose rosette or clumping arrangement of long, soft, silvery leaves that twist gently and are densely covered in trichomes. The plant produces a tall, branched inflorescence bearing pale lavender to violet flowers, which are notably fragrant—an uncommon trait in the genus. This species is well adapted to dry, bright environments and grows steadily into clumps with age.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; tolerates early morning or late afternoon sun
  • Water: Mist 2–3 times weekly or soak occasionally; allow full drying before next watering
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity with excellent airflow is ideal
  • Media: Mount on cork, driftwood, or stone; displays well in suspended arrangements
  • Temperature: Best grown in 14–28°C; avoid extended exposure to cold
  • Fertiliser: Apply diluted tillandsia fertiliser monthly during the growing season
