The Story

Euphorbia duranii is a slender, upright species characterised by its narrow, spiny stem topped with a compact crown of green leaves. The stem is densely armed with short, sharp spines arranged in regular rows, giving the plant a strong architectural form despite its relatively small size.

This species is native to Madagascar and grows slowly, eventually will produce multiple columns. Plants are supplied as established, rooted specimens grown under nursery conditions.

Care

  • Light: Bright light to full sun. Gradually acclimatise to stronger sun.
  • Water: Water sparingly. Allow the growing media to dry between watering.
  • Growing media: Very free-draining cactus and succulent mix.
  • Temperature: Protect from frost. Best grown above 5 °C.
  • Handling: Sap is toxic and can irritate skin and eyes. Handle with care.

Key Characteristics

  • Growth habit: Upright, single-stemmed Euphorbia
  • Stem: Narrow, cylindrical, densely spined
  • Spines: Short, sharp, arranged in vertical rows
  • Foliage: Small green leaves forming a crown at the apex
